About Memphis Wildlife Management Area

Memphis Wildlife Management Area (WMA) spans approximately 9,000 acres in Calloway County, Kentucky, encompassing a blend of hardwood forests, agricultural fields, and wetlands. The terrain is gently rolling with a mix of mature oak-hickory stands and bottomland hardwoods, creating ideal habitats for white-tailed deer, wild turkey, waterfowl, and small game species. Established to provide sustainable wildlife habitat and public recreational access, the area is managed by the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources. Anglers can enjoy fishing in the area's several ponds and small creek systems, which support populations of bass, catfish, and sunfish. The WMA is also known for its waterfowl hunting opportunities, especially during fall migration seasons, when the wetlands attract ducks and geese. With multiple access points and seasonal hunting zones, it attracts outdoors enthusiasts interested in upland game, small game hunting, and bird watching. Though there are limited developed trails, the network of old logging roads and field edges allows for exploration by foot, horseback, or ATV, subject to state regulations. Visitor appeal is enhanced by the area's quiet rural setting, abundant wildlife viewing chances, and the chance to experience Kentucky's agricultural-forest interface. The Memphis WMA demonstrates a balanced approach to conservation and recreation, supporting both local ecosystems and outdoor sporting traditions.
